Obituary for Vogene ReVee Cooper
When we think of our Mom, we think of the word “selfless.” Selfless is defined as: more concerned with the needs and wishes of others than with one's own needs. This perfectly describes our Mom. She always thought and cared for others be it family, friends, or strangers. She likely learned this wonderful trait from her mother, Helen Arnold.
Our Mom was born on April 19, 1928 in Longmont Colorado to John and Helen Arnold.
She was a young child during the Great Depression. She was the oldest of 6 children and during this time, she helped her mother take care of the four younger brothers and a sister. When she wasn't caring for her brothers and sister, she would babysit the neighborhood children. Times were hard and on one Christmas, she used the money she earned from babysitting to buy a Christmas tree for the family.
She completed her high school education at South High School in Denver. After high school, she worked several jobs including at a paper mill operating a huge cutting machine and at the Gates Rubber Company.
She was married on September 16, 1950 to Robert Cooper. They didn’t have much money, so they were married in the front room of her parent’s home. On their honeymoon to California, she learned how to drive a stick shift pick up truck. Before children came along, she worked as a waitress at an Italian restaurant and at the U.S. Treasury Office.
Mom and Dad had three children, Mike, Chuck, and MarVina. Even while raising and caring for three young children, she helped with the family roofing and construction business, by answering the phones and doing the bookkeeping.
But above all, she was a devoted mother to her three children. Whether taking her daughter to dance lessons, going to her son’s go kart races, picking up or dropping off the children to various events, or cooking a family dinner.
When she had free time, she enjoyed spending it with her extended family, going on family trips (almost visited all 50 states), watching soap operas, and playing with her grandsons.
Purple was her favorite color and she loved butterflies.
As time rolled on, she was a full time caregiver for our father while he was battling life ending health issues.
In her final years, while suffering from dementia, she moved into Lakewood Memory Care. Once again, in her loving and selfless way, she cared deeply for her fellow residents and enjoyed visiting with them, making sure they were okay, and encouraging them to work a puzzle with her.
She lived a life completely devoted to caring for the needs of others, while always saying, "I don't want to be a bother."
Mother, we are eternally grateful for everything you’ve taught and given us and the warmth we shared during your precious time on earth.
