Obituary for Zachary Ryan Holm
Zachary Ryan Holm, age 23, passed away unexpectedly (complications of pneumonia?) on March 27, 2021 in Denver. Zach was born in Tampa, Florida on October16, 1997 where he attended Family of Christ Lutheran School and played his favorite sport (football) with the New Tampa Wildcats. He was baptized at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in South Tampa. He loved “his” Jesus and was proud to say he was “Christian and tattooed”. He was an organ donor.

He moved to Steamboat Springs Colorado in time for 8th grade and attended Steamboat Springs High School, graduating in 2016. He played QB and linebacker for the Sailors football and was proud to say he “never lost to Moffat”. He also played point guard for the basketball team.

Zach was a natural athlete and unnaturally strong, setting weight lifting records at SSHS as a junior. Yet he was gentle and had a big heart. He loved to ski, water ski, hike, SCUBA and was a gym rat. He was recruited to the University of Wyoming Football team in 2016 as a Defensive Back/Nickel Back and played with Josh Allen (current Bills QB) and Brian Hill (Falcons).

At the time of his death, Zach was at the University of Colorado preparing for Law School. He loved his family but he especially adored his 5-month-old daughter Raelynn whom he said was “his life”.

Zach leaves behind his daughter Raelynn Jade Holm, fiancé Madison Dodson, parents Drs. Gregory and Suzanne Holm, sister Jennifer Holm (Tim) Jones, brother Josh (Sharon) Holm and his first cousin (more like a sister!) Heather Gill (Andy) Detwiler. He loved and was adored by his nieces and nephews; Cody & Corrie (twins) Holm, Caleb Holm, Samantha Jones, Joseph Jones, Riley Detwiler and Ryder Detwiler. His two best childhood friends Chris “CJ” Maura and Francisco Cancio were to him “brothers” who remained close to the end.

Zach is also survived by his maternal grandfather Robert Gill, Uncle Robert Gill, Jr., cousin Dr. Scott Van Ornum and family. Paternal Aunt Michele Holm (Robert) Athman, great Aunt Linda (Paul) Warner and cousins Nicole Athman (Dave) Miles, Amelia Miles, Bob Athman Jr (Ruth), Michaela, Stephanie & Brent Athman, Theresa Athman and family as well as Tim (Joy) Warner and Aiden, Peyton, & Titan, Dan (Joan) Warner and the Armfield Family (Joe, Jon, Joe IV (Emily) and family, Joey and Jonah.

A Memorial Service was conducted by the Reverend Doctor Craig J Henningfield at Concordia Lutheran Church in Steamboat Springs Colorado on April 2, 2021. All in attendance bore witness to the fact that Zach was “bigger than life” and had positively impacted many lives during his short time on earth. His ashes (and wildflower seeds) will be spread on top of Hahn’s Peak by the family in August 2021.

In lieu of flowers please consider the GoFundMe page for his daughter Raelynn. These funds will be placed in a trust for “Rae Rae” (aka “noodle”) to help support her future endeavors.
