Obituary for Melvin Albert Braun
Melvin Albert "Mel" Braun of Denver, CO, was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on March 7, 1933. He passed away January 3, 2020, with his loving family surrounding him.
He is survived by his five children Lynn (Kevin) Westlake, Lori (Todd) Koechlein, Jason (Cheryl) Braun, Leanne (Ken) Braun and Jeffrey (Lisa) Braun, 12 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, sister Joyce Wesner, sister-in-law Rita (Ken) Hemmersbach, sister in-law Bunny Braun, brother-in-law Ernie Skillern Jr., and multiple nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his wife Donna Mae Braun, father (Walter), mother (Della), brothers (Eugene and James) and sister (Ruth).
Mel and Donna were married for 56 years. They raised their family in their Lakewood, CO home from 1963 to 1994. Mel worked for G.E./ Honeywell for 40+ years as a computer field engineer. Mel and Donna attended their children's many sporting and school events, and raised their children in a loving manner. Mel could always be counted on to be supportive and guide his children and grandchildren with a firm but loving hand. There were many family reunions with the relatives from Wisconsin, typically alternating locations. They had a love for camping, which they shared with the children. They graduated from tents to trailers to motor homes, ending up in a diesel pusher.
In 1994, now retired and with the kids grown, they began extensive travel in their motor home. Mel and Donna hit the road for many adventures including trips to Calgary, Alaska, Eastern Canada, Newfoundland, and everywhere in between. Mel was Colorado State manager for the Holiday Rambler Club and hosted many rallies and trips. They made many friends in their travels. They embraced life, and weren't afraid to go out and explore the world.
When Mel and Donna were not on the road, Mel had a part job working at Windish RV Center, in Lakewood Colorado, working with customers on the how's and why's of their new RV or trailer.
Mel and Donna spent their winters in Hemet, California where he participated in shuffleboard, water volleyball, bridge, and various social gatherings and in the summer months would travel to visit family and friends. He continued to go to Hemet after Donna passed away. But, he enjoyed traveling to Florida and Cincinnati to spend time with Lori and Jason and their families. When in Denver he lived with Lynn and Kevin and her revolving door of grandchildren and great grandchildren to keep him busy.
