Obituary for C. Michael "Mike" Phelps
Surrounded by his family, C. Michael “Mike” Phelps, 57, of Littleton, CO passed away on August 20, 2016 after a hard-fought battle with pancreatic cancer. He is survived by his wife, Lenora, and their children Mikayla, Sean, and Keenan; his siblings Kevin Phelps, Frannie Bowers, Peggy Dugas, Tricia Robleto, and numerous nieces and nephews; He is preceded in death by his parents, and his son Christian John Leonard Phelps.
Mike was born December 19, 1958 in Syracuse, NY to John and Sue Phelps. He graduated from SUNY- Oneonta and then moved to San Diego to begin his career at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. During that time, Mike ran offices in Escondido and Newport Beach. After he left Enterprise, Mike pursued his entrepreneurial dream and began a consulting career in charitable fundraising, which led him to Colorado 25+ years ago. In the late 1990’s, Mike branched out into a real estate career, and successfully helped many friends, family, and new acquaintances (some relocating from other states) with buying and selling their first/dream homes, as well as providing real estate investment advice. Mike’s love of his work and his success is evidenced by the many repeat clients he had over the years, and the lasting friendships and trust he created and fostered with both clients and tenants alike.
More important than work though, was Mike’s relationships with God, his family and his friends. His faith in God’s plan was strong right up until the end, and he instilled that strength in his wife and children. As busy as his life was, Mike never complained about the constant shuttling of his children to their sporting events, or to watch them perform in plays. He was always involved with his children’s activities but made sure to have regular date nights with his wife as well. Mike was an avid golfer and tennis player, and enjoyed travelling on vacations with his family. To those who knew Mike, he was the “social butterfly”, and he would light up a room with his smile and sense of humor wherever he went. Here is a quote found on the internet, and it is what Mike would say to all of us: “I haven’t really left you, even if it may seem so. I’ve gone to my Heavenly home, and am closer than you know.”
Mike’s “Celebration of Life” Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, September 15th, 2016 at St. Frances Cabrini Church in Littleton. Interment will follow at Seven Stones at Chatfield Cemetery.
