Obituary for Lloyd Dale Ahnstedt
Lloyd Dale Ahnstedt passed away January 12, 2020 in Denver, Colorado.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife Clare Mae Ahnstedt of 65 years, his daughter Lyndee Bordini and her husband Mario, her children Katie, Allison, John, son Bret Ahnstedt and his wife Sandy, son Mitchell Ahnstedt and his family, Jenifer Ahnstedt wife, and children Lilah, Norah. He is survived by his brother Jerry Ahnstedt, brother in-law- Glenn Vallejo, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Harry and Esther Ahnstedt.
Lloyd was born to Harry and Esther Ahnstedt October 28 1932 in Haxtun, Colorado and was raised on the Ahnstedt family homestead. He graduated from Holyoke high school in 1950. He joined the United States Marine Corps and after he was honorably discharged attended Trinidad Jr College. There he met the Clare Vallejo. Lloyd and Clare wed in 1954 after he graduated from the University of Denver, with a degree in Accounting.
Lloyd began working at Western Paving Construction Company as a book keeper. He worked there for over thirty years rising to the position of CEO of the company. He retired from Western Paving in 1989.
Lloyd enjoyed golf, playing cards and sports of all kinds. He was an avid Bronco fan and was a season ticket holding since the mid 1960’s. He remained a devoted South Stand fan and seldom missed a game. He instilled this love of sports and especially the Broncos in his children. The family still has the season tickets and now his children seldom miss a game.
He also enjoyed raising and racing thoroughbreds and owned and race many horses until his passing. He and Clare had a box for many racing seasons at Arapahoe Park and were in attendance most race days. They took their family there as well. It was under his tutelage that his grandchildren learned how to box a quinella, read a racing program and work in the barns. Lloyd loved spending time with the trainers, jockeys and other owners and was considered a horseman by his many friends at Arapahoe Park.
More than anything else Lloyd loved and was devoted to his family. He adored his wife Clare. They loved traveling and entertaining their family and friends. He was a wonderful and encouraging father. He cherished his five grandchildren, taking them on trips to National Parks, teaching them to fish, ride a bike and drive a car.
A celebration of his life will be held at Arapaho Park Race track this summer. Please check this website for more information as it becomes available.
