Obituary for Percy J. "Jerry" Espevig
Percy “Jerry” Espevig passed away on January 31, 2020, at the age of 97 years and 7 months. Born in Marseilles, Illinois, on June 6, 1922, he enlisted in the Army and served in France and the Philippines during World War II. Prior to his discharge, he learned he had contracted TB and was given a 50% chance of survival. He spent six months at Fitzsimmons Hospital confined to bed rest. Upon his discharge from the hospital, he enrolled at the University of Denver where he earned a bachelor’s degree in economics. He also met his wife, Roberta, at a USO dance, and was happily married for 63 years until her death in 2012. He continued to live independently in the home he shared with Roberta until two months before his passing. They had one daughter, Linda.

Jerry worked for 30 years for the National Park Service and General Accounting Office. After retiring from the Federal Government, he then worked for 10 years for the City of Englewood as a sales tax auditor.

Jerry was a lifelong Lutheran first as a member of Our Saviors in Denver and then Augustana. In retirement, he liked watching sports on television, going to Blackhawk, and having lunch with his daughter each day at McDonalds.

Jerry was a wonderful father and husband who lived a full and productive life touched by kindness and compassion. He will be greatly missed.
