Obituary for Verna Doris Fletcher
Verna Doris Fletcher January 6, 1938, aged 78, died peacefully on October 15, 2016 at the Collier Hospice Center, Wheat Ridge, Colorado. Mother was surrounded by her loving family at the time of her death.
Verna was born in Denver, Colorado and was the daughter of Stella and Fred Lee. She was raised as one of three children. The oldest, Leona Lee, Edwin Daryl Lee, and finally Verna Doris Lee, the youngest.
Verna met Daniel Lee Fletcher early in elementary school and eventually became childhood sweethearts. They grew together and were married on October 10, 1953.
While Dan was stationed in Korea, Verna lived in St. Louis, Illinois with her mother and father, Stella and Fred Lee, until Dan's return. Together they had four daughters: Patricia A. Fletcher (Woodin), Linda L. Fletcher, Lorraine F. Fletcher (Weimer) and Danette J. Fletcher (Baird).
While father Dan earned a franchise business with Exxon Gas and Oil, Verna worked nights at White Spot, an all-night restaurant, where she earned the respect of customers and coworkers alike. Mother worked nights and cared for her children during the day. Her devotion to her family was apparent.
She hired on with King Soopers in 1964. There they saw her perseverance, persistence and leadership. She was quickly promoted to bakery manager in October of 1965 where she led a team of employees. She gained the respect and dedication of those she guided.
After a long and successful career, Verna retired at the early age of 50 to travel with Dan to locations of their dreams. They traveled to Spain, Europe, Canada, Aruba, Bahamas, Mexico and finally Alaska. Many other trips included the family all tucked into a 32 foot motor home. Some of the best and memorable vacations took place in that motor home.
Eventually grandchildren blessed Dan and Verna: Lanae and Jeremy Basquez; Nathan and Daniel Brown; Vernon and Adam Woodin; Carla, Richard and Benjamin Weimer.
Great grandchildren followed: Alexis and Alana Fernandez; Brennen, Wynter, Phoenix and Orion Brown; Adison, Declan and Ryker Brown; Austin and Baylie Palinek; Brody, Taylor and Cruz Woodin; Cynica, Jeremy Jr. Basquez and Kai and Mia Grant.
Mother lived her life caring for others, ensuring others’ success, and insisting on our happiness. She loved her husband and her family. Verna was a very strong woman and she led by example and showed her children the honor of respect, family and perseverance.
Verna is survived by three of her daughters, Patricia, Lorraine and her husband Rodrick Weimer and Danette and her husband Rex Baird; her sister Leona Rodak; her nephew Ed and his wife Debbie and her niece Debbie and her husband Tom. Verna was preceded in death by her loving husband Dan, and her second daughter Linda Fletcher.
A very heartfelt and special thank you to the medical staff at Collier Hospice Center for their loving care for Verna during her time there. They made a difficult time, memorable. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Verna’s name to the Collier Hospice Center, 3210 N. Lutheran Pkwy. Wheat Ridge, Colorado 80033
Verna will be interred with her husband, Danial at Ft. Logan National Cemetery.
