Obituary for Joyce Irene Bigelow
Joyce of Highlands Ranch, Colorado.
Joyce Irene Bigelow, 79, passed away peacefully at home on April 5, 2020. She was born on June 30, 1940 in Denver, Colorado. Joyce grew up in Englewood, graduating from Englewood High School in 1958. Her family attended the Mayflower Congregational Church where she met her future husband, John Bigelow. They were married at Mayflower on April 19, 1959.
Joyce’s love in life was her family. And though they lived in several places around the country they always returned to Littleton. Joyce raised five children, Mark (Ronnie), Curt (Kathy), Kent (Kathy), Patti (Jim) and Kristin (Scott). In recent years she treated Gus, her bernedoodle, as her sixth (and favored, according to her kids) child.
Her loving family expanded to eventually include eleven grandchildren, Anna(Rich), Zak(Denise), Mari, Richelle(Jon-Eric), Ryan (Tori), Justin, Chase, Marshal, Melissa, Katie, and Allie; and five great-grandchildren, Rebecca, Samuel, Penelope, Logan, and Riley.
Joyce is also survived by her sister Bev (Verne) Coleman and sister-in-law Judy (Dan) Gohr. She was preceded in death by her parents Dorothy and Roy Mayberry and in-laws Del and Roy Bigelow.
As someone who was dedicated to her family and friends, Joyce was a wonderful cook, hostess and party-planner. She stayed close to her high school friends and helped to organize the reunions of EHS ’58. While raising her children Joyce was active in the Columbine United Church, hosting many church dinners and organizing weddings.
In retirement Joyce and John spent many happy times in their camper and were members of the Sunnybrook club. Joyce will be remembered as a loving, compassionate, kind, and generous wife, mother and friend.
A celebration of life will be held for Joyce in the summer of 2020, once travel is able to resume. Please leave memories, messages, and condolence on Joyce's Tribute Wall on this website for the Bigelow family.
The family will be holding private services and interment.
