Obituary for Dorothy Marie Koenig
Dorothy Marie Koenig, age 93, of Littleton, Colorado, beloved wife of the late Elmer August Koenig, passed away quietly in her sleep from complications due to a fall. She had been living independently at Concordia on the Lake retirement community and until recently, she had actively participated in activities including Bingo, casino trips, chat sessions with other residents, and lunch out. She valued the friendly Concordia staff and her ability to continue living there.
Born in Roanoke, Virginia, Dorothy was the only child of Aileen Couch Davis and James Henry Davis. She married Elmer August Koenig on June 24, 1946. They called a number of places home and in each she enjoyed her favorite activities of playing bridge and entertaining. Dorothy and Elmer retired to Rhinelander, Wisconsin but continued to enjoy traveling throughout the United States. The walls of her apartment were covered in photos, which she said surrounded her with memories of her life. She was very proud of all of her family and their achievements and particularly adored the stories and photos of her great-grandchildren in her later years. Dorothy will be going home to Roanoke to be with the family she deeply loved and be interned at Evergreen Cemetery in the Couch family plot with her parents and husband. Dorothy had a long and active life and it is a blessing that she is now with Elmer and our Lord Jesus Christ.
Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Janice Koenig Philpy (Gary) of Morrison, Colorado and Pamela Koenig Duke (Steven) of Renton, Washington; five grandchildren, Michael Philpy (Talley) of Fairfax, Virginia; Jennifer Duke Trzyna (Alexander) of Seattle, Washington; Kevin Philpy (Elizabeth) of Apple Valley, Minnesota; Christopher Duke of Pullman, Washington; and Jonathan Duke of Seattle, Washington; and three great-grandchildren.
