Johanna Christa Smith, devoted loving wife and mother, went home to our Lord on June 4, 2017. Johanna is survived by her five children, Ted, Stephen, Roberta, Barb, and Christine, as well as her grandchildren, Christopher and Nicholas, and many nephews and nieces. Her husband, Bob, and grandson, Jonas, welcomed her home as they preceded her in death. Johanna was born in Kunzendorf, Germany, and spent hard years enduring the effects of WWII, including many of her teenage years as a refugee in Southern Germany. She married Marvin Robert Smith in 1952, and moved to the United States in 1953, living on the east coast before moving to Colorado which became the home she loved. She immediately acclimated to being an American wife and mother, but bringing her German traditions, food, and language into her home. Johanna had a love for the outdoors, especially the Colorado mountains where she enjoyed hiking, mushroom hunting, and wildflowers. She was also an avid reader, sharing her love of books with her children and grandchildren.
She will be remembered as a loving woman, giving of her time and self to others, and will be dearly missed by her family.
