Obituary for Douglas Dean Carver
Douglas Dean Carver, 67, of Golden, CO, beloved husband, father, grandfather, son, and brother, passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2022.
Doug was born on April 3, 1955, in Pasadena, California. His family relocated to Texas when he was a child, and he graduated from Richardson High School in 1974. Doug attended The University of Texas, where he obtained his Bachelor of the Arts in 1977. An enthusiastic traveler, Doug studied abroad in Mexico, where he perfected his Spanish, a skill he mastered before his passing.
Desiring a career where he could help people, Doug attended the Baylor College of Medicine, obtaining his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1981. Doug then completed a competitive Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency with The University of Texas School of Dentistry in 1986. Over his long career as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Doug held several positions in various dental associations, Toastmasters, and charitable organizations. He was also a frequent recipient of several Top Doctor designations and other prestigious accolades. After several years practicing in southwest Houston, Doug and his beloved wife, Janie Carver, relocated to Denver, Colorado.
At his core, Doug was a teacher. Moving to Colorado allowed him to begin teaching dental students part-time at the University of Colorado School of Dental Medicine. Despite his busy dental practice and teaching commitments, Doug collected several hobbies, including skiing, golfing, hiking, and sailing. Upon his retirement, Doug sought to engage in his hobbies as much as possible, always keeping a tightly packed schedule. He began teaching children’s ski school at Keystone Ski Resort, obtained his Master’s degree in Healthcare Administration from Walden University, and was awarded his Captain’s License in sailing. In the warmer months, Doug loved to sail around the Cherry Creek Reservoir in his mother’s Butterfly sailboat. Doug also enjoyed frequenting Orange Theory Fitness, and, right before his passing, he earned his purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Doug’s greatest joy, however, was spending time with his wife, Janie, daughters Drew Fein (husband Zach), Sloan Gomez (husband Jonathan), and Julie Kauffman; and son Rob Kauffman (wife Laura), grandsons Noah and Grahm, and dog Lilly. In addition to the family above, Doug is survived by his mother, Jacqueline Carver, and brothers Chris Carver (partner Virginia DeSilva) and Greg Carver (wife Marlisa).
