Obituary for Richard Duane Timmons

Richard, age 81 of Loveland, Colorado.

Richard Duane Timmons, 81, was born January 26, 1937 in Denver, Colorado. His parents were Benjamin Franklin Timmons and Marjorie Maxine Bradford. He was the oldest of three, brothers Robert (Bob) Timmons and Maurice (Ray) Timmons. Ray, the youngest brother passed in November of 2011.

Growing up his stomping grounds were Englewood, Colorado where he was on the wrestling team and spent time tinkering with radios and cars. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and brothers, sometimes causing mischief in his custom hot rod. He began dating Carolyn in High School after being introduced by a mutual friend. He graduated from Englewood High School in May of 1955. He and Carolyn Sue Pugh were married shortly after she graduated from high school on June 12, 1959.

Dick enlisted in the Navy and reported to basic training in May of 1957 in Grandview, Illinois where he received training in Parachute Rigger Class A and Atomic Biological & Chemical Warfare Defense.

After his Naval military service, he continued working for the federal government and was an engineering draftsman for the Bureau of Reclamation. He continued there for many years and began attending college courses and became a computer specialist in the 1960’s receiving many performance awards over his career. The weekends were filled with many fun trips to the mountains with his family and friends, camping, dirt biking and exploring the hills in the dune buggy. Dick was also a member of the Arvada Masonic Lodge and avid sailor. He hand built his first sailboat, spending many enjoyable trips to the lakes of Colorado. He retired after 38 years of service from the Bureau of Reclamation on April 19, 1994.

After retirement Dick took on the huge project of building their new home above Carter Lake where they resided for the next 22 years. They loved the view, the wildlife, and the beautiful sunsets over the lake along with many friends and acquaintances they got to know through the Carter Lake Sail Club. Dick loved sailing on the lake and teaching his son and daughter how to sail. He also enjoyed racing in the sailing Regatta’s where his competitive spirit came out. Over the years they enjoyed many sailing adventures, one trip they chartered a boat out of San Carlos, Mexico with friends from the sailing club. During another adventure, they went to Ft. Meyers and sailed to the Tortuga’s and enjoyed snorkeling. Being a skilled sailor he helped a fellow sailor take the adventurous task of sailing his new boat from the Peugeot Sound to San Diego, sailing under the San Francisco Bridge along the way.

From 2003 to 2011 Dick and Carolyn began RV’ing and spent the winters in Port Aransas, Texas. Where they became friends with many fellow RV’ers. Dick loved being near the ocean and they enjoyed riding their bikes on the beach. Besides RV’ing they also enjoyed going on cruises. One such trip was a cruise along the Hawaiian islands to celebrate their 50th Wedding anniversary where they renewed their vows. They also took a cruise in Alaska that brought them many great memories.

Carolyn and Dick enjoyed a wonderful and loving life together, being married for almost 60 years. He was a wonderful man that will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

Richard is survived by his wife Carolyn Sue Timmons of Loveland, Colorado; and his two children Scott Raymond (Anna) Timmons of Evergreen Colorado; and Kimberly Lee (Rich) Timmons-Beutner, and grandson Trevor Beutner of Englewood, Colorado.
