Obituary for Stephen Michael Biagiotti
Biagiotti, Stephen Michael, age 69, died on February 17, 2015, of complications from the flu. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of George and Kathryn Biagiotti on July 16, 1945. He graduated from the University of Colorado – Boulder with a degree in Finance and later received his MBA in Finance from the University of Oregon. Steve had an extensive background in real estate finance as a mortgage broker. He financed many of the early projects in the Denver Tech Center that he later utilized in his real estate development business. Steve founded SDA, Inc. in 1979, a full-service commercial real estate development company. He maneuvered the company through the very difficult 1980’s market crashes with great success and eventually focused on government build-to-suit lease projects, single family and low income housing. His properties are primarily in the western United States. Steve was a visionary for Colorado’s and America's futures. He was a regular sounding board for industry leaders and always had time to discuss anyone’s ideas and opinions. Steve was never heard uttering a negative word; he was devoutly optimistic. In the mid-90’s, he expanded the business to open an office in Reno, NV, where for more than a decade he made SDA the premier office developer in the City. He combined this success in 2001 by opening an office in Las Vegas and successfully completed 13 projects in the two cities. His legacy in downtown Las Vegas continues with new developments underway. Over the course of his career, Steve was involved with many commercial trade associations. He was an avid skier who dreamed of powder days, an enthusiastic runner, a dedicated golfer, and a devoted family man. He was married to investigative reporter and author Paula Woodward for 45 years. Steve and his family have lived in Colorado since 1975. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Peter. He is survived by his wife Paula, son Marc (Tiffany), granddaughter Sydney, sister Kathie (Rick) Cade, brothers and sisters-in-law, six nieces, and several great-nieces and nephews. As an organ donor, Steve has given the gift of sight to two people. He was a loving and inspirational man to his adoring family. His wonderful laugh, kindness, generosity, intelligence, wit and enthusiasm will be deeply missed as a presence in their lives.
