Obituary for Byron Collins Forsyth, Jr.
Byron Collins Forsyth Jr., passed away peacefully at Cherrelyn Healthcare Center in Littleton, Colorado on the evening of Saturday, April 25th, 2015.
Byron was born March 15, 1928 in Redlands, California to Byron Collins and Letha Mae (nee Larkins) Forsyth. His family moved to Willcox, Arizona when he was 10 years old. Byron entered the US Army on July 2, 1951 and completed airborne jump school - he graduated from Officer Candidate School as a 2nd Lieutenant. He served as a Platoon Leader in the 82nd Airborne Division. He was prepared to deploy to Korea when the war ended. He was discharged and returned to civilian life.
He married Phyllis Lynn Stone on April 11, 1954 in Cochise, Arizona. They had 8 children. He raised his first family in St. David and Kingman, Arizona. They moved to Colorado a few months before Phyllis passed away on November 5, 1976. He married Ingrid Geigk Edmondson on December 10, 1977 in Manti, Utah. She brought 4 children to the marriage and they had 2 more together – 14 total.
Byron taught high school for 38 years. He began by teaching Agriculture in Chandler, Arizona. He also taught in St. David and Kingman, Arizona and in Northglenn, Colorado. He was the Vice President of the National Vocational Agricultural Association for the US. He ran the Future Farmers of America Chapter in St. David. He also taught welding there. Over the years he obtained two Masters’ Degrees. The first was in Agriculture from the University of Arizona, the second in Chemistry and Mathematics.
Byron was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he held many positions, including the Bishopric, Ward Clerk, Home Teacher and High Council. He was a member of the Republican Party. He loved to travel to see his family for weddings, baptisms and family reunions. Byron also loved to go to the temple. He also loved to read and play horseshoes.
Byron was preceded in death by two sons, David (son of Phyllis) and Brady (son of Ingrid) Forsyth and two brothers Joseph and Robert Forsyth.
He is survived by his wife, Ingrid, his children Vanessa Shirk (Jacob), Sherry Forsyth, Karin Larson (Jay), David’s wife, Julie Forsyth Wittwer, Bonnie Aaron (Joel), Luanna Burris, Alan Edmondson (Kim), Dean Forsyth (Brigitte), Gail Roath (Stuart), Kevin Forsyth (Amanda), Byron Forsyth III (Rhonda), Victor Forsyth (Melody), Kurt Forsyth (Naomi), 51 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren; his brothers Merril, and Noel Forsyth, and his sister, Juanita Myers.
