Obituary for Grace Lucille McAdam
Grace L. McAdam, age 92, of the Wind Crest Community in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away on February 25, 2016. She was the beloved wife of Robert E. McAdam, mother of P.J. Kirk, Gary (Claudia) McAdam, William (Susan) McAdam, Tom McAdam, Brian (Bobbie) McAdam, and Diane (Greg) Bange, loving grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of 12. She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Loretta Ford, sister Iona King, sons Kenneth McAdam and Michael McAdam, grandson Nicholas McAdam, and great-granddaughter Charlotte McAdam.
Born on February 13, 1924 in Chicago, Illinois, Grace attended DePaul University. She met Robert there while both were playing ping-pong, and they married on August 16, 1947. They lived in Illinois, Mississippi, Minnesota, and Texas before moving to Colorado two years ago to be closer to family. Grace worked as a registered nurse, including caring for hospice patients, volunteered at her children’s schools, and spent the majority of her time caring for her large family.
A lifelong sports fan, Grace amassed a huge collection of baseball cards. She was a strong swimmer and enjoyed the water her whole life. Grace traveled to all but two of the United States and to numerous foreign countries. She took up painting in her 70s and proved her artistic talent.
Grace was much loved by her extended family, by friends across the country, and by the skilled nursing staff of Mill Vista Lodge in Highlands Ranch, where she spent her final months.
