Obituary for Marlys De Vries
De Vries, Marlys, age 75 of Denver died Tuesday, April 12 while in hospice care. She invested her life wholeheartedly in God’s kingdom, and is now at home with her dear Lord Jesus Christ. She is survived by her sister Delores Hoover (Dave), her husband Avan, her sons Loren (Tina) of Bettendorf, Iowa and Lyle (Beth) of Denver, along with her grandchildren Caleb, Garrett, Julia, Haddon and Merrielle. She was preceded in death by her father Carl and mother Gladys.

As a young girl Marlys had several experiences which drew her close to Jesus, and in the following years through high school, college, nursing school, and graduate school she found her greatest joy in serving with the Church. After becoming married, Marlys lived in Southern California and Denver and worked as an operating room nurse and homemaker.

Throughout the years Marlys continued to serve Jesus. She taught the Bible to women’s groups in her neighborhood, at church and in retreat settings; she also met often with individual women for fellowship and prayer. She was invited to become an elder at Cherry Hills Community Church in 1993, and was active in the Presbytery in the following years. Through this vocation, she felt blessed to witness the movement of God both in herself and among other women.

We thank God for his Grace in the midst of our grief.
