Obituary for Mitchell Anthony Swirtz
Mitch passed away on Thursday, June 23, 2016 in Littleton, Colorado of complications related to aggressive metastatic colon cancer. He lived an amazing life in his 44 years and leaves a true legacy of love to all who experienced his quirky humor, snazzy outfits in the brightest colors, and amazing sense of adventure. He had a variety of different working experiences including retiring as a Navy Chief with 20 years of service and sharing his passion for team member development as a manager at Wells Fargo.
Mitch was born in Robbinsdale, Minnesota into the loving family of Richard and Dolores Swirtz on October 17, 1971. He is survived by his wife Michelle, his children Zachary and Madison, and his dog, Wabo. He was blessed to be the “spoiled” youngest child of six and is survived by his five siblings Theresa (Ray), Rick (Barbara), Mary (Mike), Chuck (Patty), Liz, mother-in-law Jeanne, sister-in-law Marilyn, and brother-in-law Bill. Mitch was so very proud to be a part of a large family and enjoyed every moment with his 14 nieces and nephews: Daniella (Adam), Chuck (Lynette), Abby (Joel), Christine, Jenny (Brent), Jennifer (Brad), Nick (Kate), Cami (Eric), Stephanie (Kaan), Ricky, Molly, Liz (Paul), Kacey, and Kinsey (Shawn), and his 19 great nieces and nephews.
Mitch is preceded in death by his parents Richard and Dolores, father-in-law Gerald Plante, and grandparents Charlie and Lorena Mitchell and Vincent and Christine Swirtz.
Mitch lived a life that most people would envy and he took every opportunity to make every moment count. He was a super fan of his two amazing children. Mitch loved watching Madison build her mad bass skills at School of Rock. They shared a love for flashy Chucks, a crazy geometric patterned sweater, and having spirited discussions that helped them both learn more. Watching Zach grow into a responsible man, graduate, and leave home to attend his first year of college was such a proud moment for Mitch and he was honored to experience how much Zach loves his family and friends. Together, Mitch and Zach were true pun masters and found humor that would lead to gut-wrenching laughter. Mitch and Michelle set out to enjoy life together off-roading in the Jeep, hiking, camping, boating, geocaching, playing board games, and traveling. Perhaps their hobbies changed over their 20-year marriage; but their love for one another certainly never did. Mitch could often be found smiling while sitting with his buddies on the deck or in his incredible bar enjoying a nice glass of fine whiskey or tequila. His playlists were contagious and always showed his affection for the way to live life with a smile on his face.
Mitch was proud of his Catholic faith and lived life knowing it would end in eternal peace. Services will be held on Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at 11:00 AM, with gathering time at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 9100 93rd Ave North, Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
Burial will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery, with reception immediately after in Regan Hall. We invite you to join us to share in the celebration of Mitch’s life.
Memorial donations will go toward Zach and Madison Swirtz’s education.
