Obituary for Carol Ruth Reinboldt
Carol Ruth Reinboldt, 66, died peacefully on October 28, 2016 at Orchard Park Health Care Center in Centennial, CO. She was born on January 28, 1950 in Aurora, IL to Arlene and Joseph Reinboldt. A bright student who possessed a life-long interest in the human mind, Carol graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and she earned a Master’s degree from Northern Illinois University. In 1974, Carol, then a counselor, married Robert Olsen, and together they had two children. After being a stay at home parent for over a decade, Carol re-entered the workforce and ultimately built a successful career with the State of Colorado Medicaid program. She worked as a business analyst, an operations manager, and at the time of her retirement in 2015, Carol managed Medicaid claims payment and provider enrollment.
Carol’s family and friends remember her as a pistol who was wickedly smart and an ardent lover of film, paintings, and especially, books. She read more books and saw more movies than most, but she wasn’t fully satisfied until she could talk about them with a friend. A knitter for 50 years, her loved ones treasured their colorful handmade sweaters. Above all, she was a forward thinker and unwavering feminist who did her best to accept and love others as they are; by her account, coming out as lesbian in 1990 was her most cherished act of bravery. Her signature laugh and appreciation of a beautiful meal will also be greatly missed, as Carol’s sense of humor and palate were equally refined.
Carol was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Reinboldt, mother, Arlene (Bretthauer) Reinboldt, and brother, Steven Reinboldt. Survivors include her children, Rachel (Jarrod McCartney) Olsen, James (Becky Alt) Olsen; granddaughter Louise Olsen-McCartney; brother Daniel Reinboldt, sister Jolene (William) Burdge; niece, Lindsey (Chad) Krywaruchka; best friend forever, Carolyn Nielsen, and many other dear friends.
A memorial service will be held in celebration of Carol’s life at the Chapel at Ellis Family Services on Friday, November 4 at 10:30 a.m., with reception to follow in the Ponderosa and Spruce Rooms at the Peak Community & Wellness Center in Littleton.
In addition to flowers, memorial donations may be made to Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains or Project Angel Heart in her memory.
