Obituary for David W. Allen
David Warren Allen, 50, passed away on April 15, 2022, after a hard-fought battle with double pneumonia. Dave spent his final hours surrounded by family and friends and in typical Dave fashion, donated his viable organs and tissue to better the lives of others. Dave will be remembered for his selflessness, self-deprecating humor, his love for good food and his dogs, and his devotion and love for his wife, Colleen.
Dave was born in Durham, North Carolina on January 2, 1972. He spent his adolescent years terrorizing the residents of Durham and courting his first love, the Duke Blue Devils. Dave attended Louisburg College from 1991-1993 where he received an Associates degree in Business Administration, Management and Operations. In 1994, Dave became the Certified Executive Chef for The Wynkoop, a Denver brewery owned by Senator John Hickenlooper. He also spent several years as the owner and operator of Scratch Comfort Food, a Denver-based food truck that served the tastiest from-scratch recipes you’d ever tried. After opening many restaurants for John Hickenlooper, Dave started his illustrious career as a sales maverick within the food service industry and never looked back. Dave’s career led him on many adventures, from Alaska to Cincinnati and even dining at the same table at Julia Child.
In 2012, Dave met the love of his life and forever best friend Colleen Allen (Frank). The two married on October 12, 2018, and Dave was adopted into the Frank/Richardson clan, despite being under 6 feet tall. Dave’s years with Colleen were the best of his life and together they shared an insurmountable love and A LOT of laughter.
Dave is survived by Colleen and the rest of the Frank/Richardson family, who loved him like their own. He is also survived by his step-parents, sister/brother-in-law and nephew, and brother/sister-in-law. Dave was preceded in death by his mother, Joann, who passed away in 2015, and father, William Sr., who passed in 1978.
Dave’s Celebration of Life will be held July 16th from 12:00 Noon to 2:30 pm at the Chateaux at Fox Meadows, 13600 Xavier Lane Broomfield, CO 80023. PLEASE RSVP no later than July 1st with Colleen at (720) 253-7593 if you plan on attending. A light lunch will be served.
As Colleen has already received dozens of lovely sympathy flowers, the family humbly requests that flowers not be sent. Instead, please honor Dave by wearing either Duke Blue or a silly (or raunchy!) t-shirt.
