Obituary for James Lewis Bacon

James Lewis Bacon, 88, of Denver, Colorado, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior on August 6, 2021. Jim was predeceased by his wife Betty Bacon, parents Carl Lewis Bacon and Maudie Maurine Bacon Gates, brother Clyde Bacon, sister Patsy Sue Bacon, and grandchildren Krista Leigh Truitt and Derek Andrew Truitt.

The patriarch of a loving family, Jim leaves behind his four children, Valerie (Alan) Dickens, Brenda (Mark) Tranchina, Bart (Nani) Bacon, and Kristin (Terry) Lang, and eleven grandchildren, Craig (Melissa) Truitt, Scott Truitt, Stacey (Michael) Snyder, Devin (Kylie) Dickens, Zoe Bacon, Sarah Lang, Alyssa Dickens, Reid Bacon, Zachary Lang, James Lang, and Macy Lang, and two great-grandchildren, Tyler Truitt and Harper Truitt. His unconditional love, support and wisdom were constant in all of their lives and will remain in their memories of him forever.

Born in Gunter, TX on November 23, 1932, Jim grew up in Texas, where his lifelong love of sports was born. After graduating from North Texas State University, where he played quarterback for the Mean Green, and serving in the Army, where he also played quarterback, he took a job in the pharmaceutical industry. Known throughout the company as “Ol’ Blue Eyes,” Jim spent 37 years with Lederle Laboratories before retiring in 1993.

Jim was an active member of Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church in Englewood, CO, ministering as a Deacon, an Elder, Clerk of the Session, a leader of the PrimeTimers, and a member of numerous other committees over the years.

In addition to his love for the Lord, his next greatest love was his family—Betty, his kids and especially his grandkids. He was a fixture on the sidelines or in the bleachers of every ballpark in Colorado, Texas and Arizona. He was their biggest fan. He was known as Grandad to all of his kids’ and grandkids’ friends, whom he treated like family.

Jim touched many lives and was always a great listener, showing care, compassion and understanding while offering words of wisdom. He will be dearly missed by not only his family, but many friends from all walks of his life.

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held on Friday, August 13, 2021 at Cherry Creek Presbyterian Church, 10150 E. Belleview Ave, Greenwood Village. Visitation will be held in the Fireside Room beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. and a reception after the service.
