Obituary for John P. Tromly
John passed on November 25 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, and spent his childhood in Fairfield, Illinois. The family moved to South Vine Court in Englewood in the early 1950s. He attended South High for a year and graduated from Cherry Creek High School in 1957. His graduating class was the second class to graduate from Cherry Creek. John attended Colorado State University where he was active in the Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity and Army ROTC. John met Karen at CSU through mutual friends. He graduated with a business degree in 1961 and was commissioned into the U.S. Army as an officer. John and Karen married on December 2, 1961, and they moved to Ogden, Utah, where John served in the military. After completing his service, John worked for Ford Motor Company. Steve and Kristin were born in Salt Lake City. In 1968, the family moved back to Denver to be closer to family. In Denver, John worked for Samsonite and in 1977 began a 33-year career in commercial real estate brokerage at Frederick Ross Company, from which he retired at the end of 2010. John loved his work and never met a stranger. He was always active and his interests included tennis, skiing, golf, fly fishing, swimming, snorkeling and exercising with his friends at Greenwood Athletic Club. He became active with the Alzheimer’s Association; he participated in a caregivers support group and served as a fundraising team lead for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s. He participated in Reel Recovery (cancer survivors fly fishing group), the HeartLight Center for Grief Support, and Live by Living, a hiking group for cancer survivors. He enjoyed socializing and made new friends all through his life. John was a dedicated son, husband, and father. His family and friends were impressed with the love he displayed in caring for his mother, Ruth, until she passed in December 2010. John and Karen celebrated their 50th anniversary in December 2011. He was Karen’s loving caregiver as she coped with Alzheimer’s disease. Karen preceded him in death in June 2012. John is survived by son Steve (Chris), daughter Kristin, and grandchildren Audra and Logan as well as brother Fred (Annette) and sister Beth (Joel).
