Obituary for Mary J. Caribaltes
Caribaltes, Mary J., age 98 of Aurora, Colorado. Beloved wife of the late Peter H. Caribaltes. Survived by loving daughter Marcia Hughes. Mary died on January 27, 2014 at Porter Hospice in Denver, Colorado. Mary was born in Fort Meade, Florida on September 20, 1915 to Harry and Irene Jordan. At the age of 3, she moved to Jacksonville, where she lived until 2008. In 1942 she married Peter G. Caribaltes, Jr. in Mobile, Alabama. In 2004 she was predeceased by her husband of 62 years. During her lifetime, Mary was a member of St. Mary's, St. John's, and St. Paul's Episcopal Churches. Over her 50 year career, she was in the medical/charitable field at Duval County Medical Center and the American Cancer Society. She later transitioned to the financial world at Independent Life Insurance Company and Allen C. Ewing Company. She retired from Ewing on her 70th birthday. Mary was active in Pilot Club, P.A.C.E. Center for Girls, Girls Incorporated, the Jacksonville Art Museum and Cummer Art Museum. Mary is survived by her daughter, Marcia Hughes of Aurora, CO., her grandson, Lynn Hughes of Mission Viejo, California and nieces and nephews. Her nieces are: Paula Harley, Sharon Caribaltes, Susan Garrison (Don), and Sandy Reddish (Tim). Her nephews are: Danny Bohannon (Mary), Michael Bohannon, and Tony Caribaltes (Dwane Tyson). In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, sister Helen Thompson, brother Edgar Jordan, in-laws Bettie and George Caribaltes, and niece Shirley Trent.
Service: The Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 22nd at 11 a.m. at St. St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 5616 Atlantic Boulevard, Jacksonville 32207. There will be a reception immediately following the service.
