Obituary for Mary L. Jensen
Mary Lindsay Jensen passed away on Monday, February 22, 2016. She was born September 3, 1919 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Samuel J. Lindsay and Mary Alice Powell Lindsay.
Mary attended Utah State University, majoring in English. She worked on the university newspaper and interned with the Deseret News in Salt Lake City, reporting for the society page. She was married to Forrest J. Jensen of Wardboro, Idaho in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on February 10, 1940. Forrest passed away on February 14 of this year. They were married for 76 years and four days.
Mary and Forrest settled in Denver in 1940 and Denver has been their primary residence, with two years from 1970-1972 in Glendora, California. Mary and Forrest have four children: Mary Kathleen Sherwood, Robert Forrest Jensen, Karen Elizabeth Jensen and Kimberly Sue Jensen. Today they have fifteen grandchildren, and fifty-three great grandchildren.
Mary was an avid gardener. She was a great cook and baker and a generous hostess and invited many people to join the family for Sunday dinners and other occasions. For many years she worked as a secretary for the C.A. Brown Company in Denver. She volunteered at the Denver Botanical Gardens.
Mary and Forrest served in their community in many ways. Forrest and Mary were members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Mary was the Denver Colorado Temple Matron as Forrest presided in the temple. She transcribed many patriarchal blessings when Forrest served as stake patriarch. Mary also had many teaching and leadership positions including being the leader of the children’s primary group and president of the women’s service organization. She was a longstanding member of the Jane Herrick Literary Study Club of Denver and a member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Mary and Forrest enjoyed travel and visited Great Britain, Western Europe, Israel, Africa, Russia, and Mexico, and particularly enjoyed their many visits to Hawaii.
