Obituary for Mary Louise Moore
Mary Moore was born on January 11, 1932, to Benjamin and Mary Higgins in Topeka, Kansas. Her older brother, Benny, preceded her in death while serving in the United States Marine Corps in the South Pacific in 1943. Until the end of her life, Mary strived to live independently and remained engaged with her family, church, and community until Heaven called her home on December 2, 2021.
A graduate from Dalhart High School in 1950, she furthered her education, completing degrees in business and real estate. She excelled in each of her jobs as an accountant, bookkeeper, director with accounts and records, sales associate, and real estate broker. She rose to the title of Director of Accounts and Records with the Colorado Education Association, where she was employed for 16 years.
Mary was a loving and dedicated mother, who supported her three boys in their sports and kept the refrigerator stocked to keep them and their friends healthy and growing! Through the years, she could be seen at the grandchildren and great grandchildren’s games, musicals, and other events as a testament of how important family relationships meant to her. Holidays, family birthdays and get togethers always included her bringing delicious food and desserts. When she arrived this past Thanksgiving, pecan pie in hand, one family member said, “Now the celebration can start. The guest of honor is here.” Mary was a devoted member of Arvada Presbyterian Church since 1959, beginning with volunteering in Sunday school, Bible school, and the nursery. Her love of singing moved her to join the Chamber Choir sharing her beautiful soprano voice. She was also a member of the Wheat Ridge Troubadours, singing in local assisted living communities and nursing homes. She consistently used her God given talent of singing and her desire to serve, to bring joy to others.
She held several offices, including serving on the Presbyterian Task Force, volunteering with The Carpenters Helpers Habitat for Humanity, and raising funds and educating her church congregation regarding volunteer opportunities. For many years, Mary coordinated and assisted in preparing meals for the New Genesis Men’s Shelter, along with the women’s and youth shelters. She knew how to please those attending with delicious, satisfying menus. Her concern for others going through the difficulties of a divorce or searching for employment, led her to develop a divorce recovery and employment workshop to support them. Mary also started a singles group and loved being involved in her community.
Mary received the Arvada Chamber of Commerce Image Award for 2006, which was presented to her for being an Arvada leader who inspired others in immeasurable ways. The following statement was given about Mary when she was presented with the award, “For the selfless way you gave of your time through volunteering for your community and your ability to inspire others to volunteer.” This statement honoring her was a reflection of a quote she lived by daily from June Reagan, who was a Refugee Services Volunteer. She said, “After sharing my food, I am not hungry, after sharing my resources, I am not poor and after sharing my life, I am much richer.”
Mary is survived by her sons and their families; Don, Glen (Becky), Rick (Mary Ann); 6 grandchildren, Michelle (Nate), Diane (Rick), Anne (Andrew), Brandon (Lindsy), Paul (Kendall), Rob (Liz), and 8 great grandchildren, Lauren, Luke, Jayden, Carson, Olivia, James, Ethan, Austin, Corbin, Trevor, and 3 step-great grandchildren, Rylie, Connor, Alaina.
