Obituary for Mavis Ellingson Hentz
Mavis Ellingson Hentz died on July 22, 2015, peacefully in her sleep. She was 88 years old.

Mavis was born on November 15, 1926 on the family farm, along with her twin sister, Mardell, in Roberts County, South Dakota, to Bert and Esther Ellingson. She was one of nine children.

In June 1948, she married Darwin Hentz from Rosholt, South Dakota. Together they founded and ran Raceway Park in Shakopee, Minnesota for 27 seasons.

Mavis enjoyed traveling, learning new crafts and had a sense of adventure. In mid-life she learned to downhill ski and became an avid golfer. She loved to golf and spent many hours on the golf course. She enjoyed knitting, needlepoint and playing Yahtzee with her grandchildren, winning nine times out of ten. She was known for her positive attitude, quiet wisdom and beautiful smile; smiling even in her final days at nurses and health care workers.

Mavis is survived by her husband, Darwin, sons, Don and Duane, and her daughter, Luann; six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren, with another due in September.

The family prefers donations in Mavis's memory to the Cardinal Golf Association, 1210 Broadway Street, Alexandria, MN 56308, to be used for the new Junior Practice Facility at the Alexandria Golf Club.
