Obituary for Neldon Reid Boone
Boone, Reid, was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on September 27, 1950 to James and Ruth Boone. He grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah with his five older brothers, Jerry, Gail, Dick, Doug and Mick. His mother would cook Sunday dinners. Anytime I would ask what he would like, he would always say chocolate cake because that is what his mother would make for him. In 1978, Reid married Debbie Bingham who had a daughter, Desarae, who was three years old at the time. Reid always loved Desarae as his own. Reid and Debbie had three children together, Nicole, Jaclyn and Derek. Desarae made Reid a Grandpa of three beautiful boys, Toby, Brock and Bronson. Reid always exercised and trained hard his entire life. His life journey was helping others reach their fitness goals. He became Mr. Utah in 1977. Reid always had a very protective spirit. He was always involved in protecting and doing security type jobs as well. He was Mel Tillis’ bodyguard for a brief time. He worked many boxing matches. One of his stories was Jack Nicholson walking up to him with his tickets and saying “where will these get me”. His long time friend, Gil Ruiz, offered Reid an employment opportunity in Denver, Colorado in 1992 with his gyms called Better Bodies Fitness Centers. Reid had always wanted a future in the fitness industry so he took a leap of faith and moved to try and have a better future. Reid met his future wife, Tracy, the day he came to town at the Christmas Party on December 5th 1992. They were together from that day forward. They both said they saved each other’s life when they met. One request he had when he proposed to Tracy in pre-marital counseling was to love his children as her own. They were married on his birthday, September, 27, 1997 by Pastor Derek Anderson. They had a little boy named Elijah Boone in 2006. Reid and Tracy worked for Better Bodies Fitness Centers for 15 years. In 2007, Gil Ruiz decided to retire and he sold the business to Reid, Tracy and her parents Bill and Lorraine. It was a great blessing and Reid finally had his dream. Over the last six years he was the Chief Financial Officer/ President of Better Bodies Fitness Centers. Reid was able to move and remodel the Aurora facility this last August while he was so ill. It was his vision and he was very proud of how it turned out. There are three locations in Aurora, Lakewood and Westminster. He made the gyms affordable in 2008 by dropping the price and making it possible for everyone who wanted to be able to train to do so at a great facility. The one other passion over all else, was his love for Jesus Christ. Reid was a man with a protective and servant’s heart. Reid found the Lord and Heritage Christian Center under Bishop Dennis and Pastor Michele Leonard. He loved these two with all of his heart. Reid was honored with the Title of Minister under Bishop. He was the minister of Security and Bishop’s personal Armor Bearer for many years. Reid was the type of guy that when he put his mind to something he went all the way. He had the heart of a champion. Reid completed Bible College under Pastor Derek Anderson who Reid called Pastor Gadget. Reid and Tracy achieved their PhD in Christian Counseling and Psychology on June 23rd, 2004 from Carolina University of Theology. Reid and his wife taught classes from a book they co-wrote called Extreme Makeover Inside/Out that helped people achieve their fitness goals from a different perspective. You can read his Blogs on the Better Bodies Fitness Website at www.betterbodiescolorado.com. There will be a Better Bodies Fitness Memorial Celebration at the new Aurora location at 13801 E. Exposition Avenue on Saturday, January 5th from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Please bring your favorite memory in writing of Reid if you have one with or without any photo. Tracy is making a memory book for their 6 year old son so he can grow up knowing who his Daddy really was and how much he was loved. This will bless his older children as well. You can follow us on the Better Bodies Fitness Facebook page for any future details at www.facebook.com/ betterbodiescolorado. Reid was a great Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and Friend but mostly a Child of God. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but we rejoice that he will no longer be in pain, sing loudly and walk with Jesus on the golden streets of Heaven. Many of the family members, including his small son, said “Dad is our bodyguard in Heaven now.”
