Obituary for Phyllis Eloise Arkle
Phyllis age 89 of Littleton, Colorado.
Phyllis Eloise Arkle passed away in Littleton, Colorado on February 13 at the age of 89. She is lovingly remembered by her five children (spouses): Valerie (Bill), Don (Cindy), Tim, Brian (Regina), and Heather (Kevin); seven grandchildren (spouses): Brett (Jennifer), Erin, Brandon (Leah), Adam, Jordan (Bonnie), Leigh (James), and Casey; three great grandchildren: Collins, Wynn, and Lincoln; nieces and nephews: Marilyn, Jay, Lori, and Jim.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Everett Arkle.
Phyllis was born on November 2, 1928 in Winfield, Kansas to Rosa Mae (Shook) Turner and James Pierce Turner. Her older brother, George Ralph, and younger sister, Wilma Mae, as well as her parents predeceased her.
Phyllis spent most her childhood in various cities in Kansas. She attended 7th through 11th grade at Winfield High School and graduated from Wichita East High School in Wichita, KS. Her favorite job was at the Whitney Paper Company in Wichita, KS, where she performed duties such as: shorthand, typing, bookkeeping, answering phones, and taking orders. She was very proud to be given the key and combination to the safe in order to open and close the store.
In April of 1948, Phyllis and her sister took a bus to Los Angeles, California to join their mother, who had moved there six months prior. Within two weeks, she was working at G.E. Supply as secretary to the small appliance manager. This is where she met her husband, Donald Arkle. They married on January 28, 1950 in California and had five children. They spent some time in Alabama and returned to California for five years before moving to Colorado where Donald retired from Martin Marietta. Phyllis has lived the past 30 years in Littleton, Colorado.
Her faith was very important to her. She spent many hours at St. Thomas More Catholic Church where she made rosaries and served in the Perpetual Adoration Chapel ministry. She also loved to read, cook, bake, sew, craft, and play games, especially Bingo. She was an extremely selfless and generous person; always thinking of others before herself. She was an incredibly loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be truly missed by all.
