Obituary for Richard B. Kinney
Richard, age 87 of Parker, formerly of Centennial, Colorado. Husband of Jeanne Betz Kinney.
Dick was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1931. He graduated from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in 1953 with a degree in business. At University he was a member and former president of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity chapter and met with his future wife Jeanne Betz. Dick is a veteran who spent three years in the USAF as a navigator, discharged with the rank of 1st Lieutenant. His professional life was in sales and management where he worked for NCR selling early main-frame computers and with Welch Allyn selling the first bar-code technology. Dick and Jeanne worked and raised their family in Ohio, western Pennsylvania, and upstate New York before retiring to New Mexico and later Colorado to be closer to his sons' families and grandchildren. Dick and Jeanne were avid sailors, cruising the shores of Lake Ontario from their home base at the Sodus Bay Yacht Club. In retirement Dick was a docent at the New Mexico Natural History Museum where he explained the dinosaur displays and chipped real dinosaur bones out of rock. Other interest that he shared and participated in with family and friends included snow skiing, scouting, golfing, and an occasional hot-air balloon crew. As an adult leader in the Boy Scout organization he proudly helped both of his sons to attain the rank of Eagle Scout.
Dick is survived by his wife of 64 years, Jeanne Betz Kinney; sons Philip R. Kinney and his wife Jennifer; Greg S. Kinney and his wife Joan; and grandchildren Joseph, Shannon and Regan.
