Obituary for Richard E. Wadsworth, Jr.
Richard Eugene (Dick) Wadsworth JR of Bennett, CO left this earth to meet his Savior Jesus on Friday, April 10, 2015. In the eyes of his loved ones, his life here was taken much too soon when he succumbed to severe injuries due to a motor vehicle accident on March 24, 2015; but our Lord, in His infinite wisdom, gave Dick perfect healing in bringing him to heaven. Dick was born August 5, 1954 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Richard E. Wadsworth SR and Shirley May Morningstar Wadsworth. He graduated from Eisenhower High School in Russell, Pennsylvania in 1972. He excelled in wrestling, was co-captain of the Eisenhower wrestling team, and was undefeated in his 4 years of wrestling until he was on the road to state championship. On August 18, 1973 Dick married Sheila Rae Schwanke in the Scandia Covenant Church, Scandia, Pennsylvania. Their 42nd anniversary is this year. They have 3 sons and 7 living grandchildren; 5 boys and 2 girls. In November 1988 Dick went to work for United Airlines as an A&P mechanic; this took him and his family to San Francisco until February 1995, when he was transferred to Denver. He accepted a position as a field service mechanic, maintaining United’s jet-ways, bag systems, and ground power units at several airports throughout the country. He was employed over 26 years, up to his passing on April 10. Dick loved his Lord, cherished his wife and family, and adored his grandchildren. One of his passions was cooking; he was in his element cooking gourmet breakfasts for his wife, and organizing and cooking meals for family gatherings. He loved the mountains, particularly the Williams Fork Reservoir area where for the last 20 years he set up elk camp every fall for family and friends. Hunting and fishing were favorite hobbies, as well as traveling. Finding great places to eat all over the country fit in perfectly with his job. He loved traveling to Europe, especially Germany and Ireland. Dick loved meeting new people, and because of his job he had genuine friends across the United States and was a positive influence in many lives. Dick was a member of Strasburg Community Church, where he had just been appointed a member of the Deacon Board, and the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation. He loved supporting the military and showing his appreciation for their service. Richard was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Daniel Lee and Dane Cloyd, his mother Shirley, step-mother Marcia, and grand-daughter Sophia Rose. He is survived by his wife Sheila, sons Shelby Richard (Kara), Kyle Wayne, Mark Edward (Lindsay) Wadsworth; 7 grandchildren, Tristan, Aidan, Adalynne, Kieran, Victoria, Kevin, and Noah, his father Richard Wadsworth SR, sister, Darlene, in-laws, Wayne and Rose Schwanke, sister-in-law Jennifer (Ted) Marston, brothers-in-law, Craig and Kirk (Janice) Schwanke, and several nieces and nephews. Dick’s “homecoming” is a loss for so many here, but is also temporary, in that through Jesus Christ we will meet again!
