Obituary for Sheryl Lanette Buxton

Sheryl Lanette (Jones) Buxton passed away peacefully into the hands of our Lord and Savior while surrounded by family on January 22, 2023, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

She was born in Enid, Oklahoma on November 1, 1940, to LeRoy Wallace Jones and Barbara Lorayne (Will) Jones and had one younger brother, Richard L. Jones, who adored her saying she was the best sister a little brother could have. They were close all her life and she left him with nothing but precious memories.

As a child, she was referred to as “a little Shirley Temple” holding a remarkable resemblance to her beaming face and spiral curls. Her greatest gift was making friends, always having them over to the house from grade school through college. Most considered her their best friend. She attended grades 1-11 in Hennessey, Oklahoma, and her senior year at Midwest City High School where she graduated and then attended college at Eastern Oklahoma A&M in Wilburton, Oklahoma.

In her early career she worked at Pioneer National Bank in Ponca City, Oklahoma and in the finance department of Conoco, Inc. where she met the love of her life James (Jim) Dale Buxton.

Sheryl and Jim married in August of 1969 and spent fifty-three wonderful years together raising five children and enjoying sixteen grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She spent most her life as a dedicated wife and gracious homemaker, adored by every child that came into her life, having a special love for and connection with babies.

Her heart of service led her to Birth Choice in Ponca City, Oklahoma which she particularly enjoyed. She also served at Benet Hill Monastery in Colorado Springs, Colorado and St. Peter Catholic Church in Monument, Colorado.

She enjoyed sewing, reading romance novels, yard work, and especially liked to nurture her indoor botanical collection including family heirloom plants. She liked games, cards and throwing coins in a slot machine. She won most games she played, a very bright and lucky lady.

She befriended countless people with her gentle soul, kind heart, empathy, and unconditional love for all. Those fortunate to know her described her as beautiful inside and out, welcoming, accepting, personable, smart, strong, and loving.

Sheryl was deeply loved and will be greatly missed. She leaves behind a brokenhearted family that looks with hope to the day they will see her in heaven. She will be remembered by all as a precious soul on earth and an angel watching over us now… husband James D. Buxton, children Sherry (Mark) White, Ron (Barb) Buxton, Jamie (Mike) Thomas, Jennifer Parker, and Jeremy (Audra) Buxton, grandchildren Jordan (Megan) White, Jessica (Chris) Shepard, Claire (Sam) Pierce, Connor Thomas, Carter Thomas, Cooper Thomas, Ben Parker, Nickolas Parker, William Parker, Koen Buxton, Gavin Buxton and Logan Buxton, great grandchildren Victoria White, Violet White, Romeo White and Jackson Shepard, brother Richard (Sonya) L. Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents.
