JR was a great man. He grew up in north Denver and attended North High School. There he was an avid swimmer winning numerous awards and medals. He set school records in several events at the time. He was also involved in marching band, playing the saxophone and served as the Drum Major directing the band. JR was also involved in the Student Council and was the Vice President. After High School JR went on to join the United States Air Force and served his country during the Vietnam War and was stationed in Vietnam as well as England. There he developed his love for travel. When he returned home he said that he had always been good at working with his hands and decided to pursue a career as an Electrician. He then enrolled in the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers union, electrician program where he first attained his apprentice certificate eventually attaining his journeyman’s license. JR was always very proud of his work and accomplishments as a union Electrician of Local 68 in Denver. Some of the major projects that he helped build were Denver International Airport, Pepsi Center, Inverness and the DTC tech center area, as well as many other commercial projects across the state and the western United States. His career as an Electrician eventually took him overseas where he worked for about 6 years in Iraq. While overseas he was able to travel to many different places and see amazing things. He visited Kuwait, Italy, Rome, Amsterdam, Greece, and Thailand, Australia as well as all the smaller stops along the way. JR retired from the union in 2010. He was a lifelong Broncos fan, having been a season ticket holder since 1976. He also had a love for Manchester United soccer team which he developed while being stationed in England. Throughout his life he was an avid skier and also enjoyed camping and fishing having lived in the mountains of Sedalia, Colorado for many years. JR‘s love for his family was endless and will be greatly missed and forever loved by all that knew him.
