Obituary for John Daryle Butler
John Daryle Butler, born in Falls City, NE, John was the son of Asa E. Butler, Jr. and May Bernice Carlson, the third of four children. He grew up on a small farm tending chickens, hogs, and vegetables.
In the 1960s, the family moved to Lincoln, NE where John graduated from Northeast High School in 1965. He competed in gymnastics during his school years and played the trombone. He also competed in boxing through Golden Gloves.
In 1965, John volunteered for the Army and was subsequently sent to Vietnam where he served two tours. After discharge, he met and married Susan Walberg in Lincoln in 1969. He attended the University of Nebraska Lincoln and graduated with a bachelor’s in Economics. John spent most of his career working in construction contract administration. He retired from CH2M Hill in 2007, after 19 years with the company.
John enjoyed gardening, the outdoors, hunting and fishing, spending time with his family, and home projects. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix with some duct tape and some extra screws with a little glue.
He had a good sense of humor, which also influenced his children’s senses of humor. He always loved animals and had pet cats, dogs, chickens, squirrels, and raccoons over the years. He had a special place in his heart for his favorite dog, Noodles.
John passed Tuesday, September 29, 2020 and is survived by his wife of fifty one years, Susan of Littleton; son Justin of Longmont; daughter Melissa of Centennial; brother Elmer of Eau Claire, WI; brother Alan of Gering, NE; sister Margaret of Colorado Springs; numerous nieces and nephews.
