Obituary for Effie M. Vann
Effie M Vann, age 92, passed away on November 11, 2018 in Aurora, Colorado. She is survived by her son Tommy Franklin, daughter Martha L Franklin, and two grandsons Lance Franklin and CPT Keenan Franklin, brother Arthur James, and two great grandsons Trent Franklin and Aaron Franklin. She is preceded in death by her husband MSG Charlie M Vann, father Omes James, mother Martha Howard, brothers OC James and Mackie McClellan, sisters Tressie Crockett and Palithea Taylor.

Effie Vann was born in Eulfa Oklahoma on October 18, 1926. She graduated from East High School in Wichita Kansas. On February 18 1955, Effie married MSG Charlie Vann and the two relocated several times with their son Tommy Franklin age 71 and Martha Franklin age 69 due to military service. Those installations included Ft Lee, Virginia, Verdun France (late 1964), and Garmisch Germany. While supporting her husband’s military career she found work both on and off the installations as a retail clerk at the base exchanges and retail drug stores. She always ensured her children had what was needed for success in their own lives.

Upon return to the United States the family settled on Denver, CO. The beauty and splendor of the surrounding so closely resembled Garmisch, Germany that the couple found it easy to call Denver home. Effie was an active member of New Hope Baptist Church in Denver, CO. Here she ushered for the church, became a member of the church choir, and was always willing to assisted in a way she felt needed. Effie has always committed her life to her faith.

Caring for others was what she did best. Once her brother Mackie became gravely ill she retired from Skaggs Drug to care for him, then her mother, and finally her husband all the way until the very end. Effie was never a complainer and no task was beneath her and her family never once heard her complain about doing anything for anyone.

Family history and knowing where she came from was something she found great comfort in. Effie was instrumental in tracing her family tree along with a cousin from St Paul Minnesota. Together they were able to trace the family ancestry all the way back to Africa all before the internet existed. Effie was the organizer and founder of the family’s 5-year reunion with the held in St Paul, Minnesota with over 300 family members attending.

She lived a full life by dedicating her life to the service of others. Effie was the epitome of the Army spouse and gave the ultimate sacrifice serving the country by the side of her husband.

Effie final resting place will be Fort Logan Cemetery with her beloved husband. Memorial services will be Friday November 30th, 2018 at Ellis Family Services located at 13436 W Arbor Pl Littleton, CO 80127 at 2:00PM.
