Obituary for Thomas Val Adams
Adams, Thomas Val, age 59 of Lakewood. Tom, beloved father, husband, grandfather, uncle, and friend, spread his wings and ascended to the heavens on Sunday, July 12th, surrounded by his loved ones.
Tom was born April 23, 1956, in Arvada, Colorado, where he lived with his family throughout his childhood. Tom received his private pilot’s license at the age of 17, graduated from Arvada High School in 1974, and attended college at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado.
Tom moved to Rapid City, South Dakota in 1976 where he spent the next 12 years learning, working, building friendships, and raising his family. He was a talented practical thinker, a gifted carpenter, and capable ranch hand. Tom was trained and certified in real estate by the Real Estate Services Group of Rapid City, SD. He served as property manager for The Real Estate Services Group and Omaha Realty. Tom moved back to Colorado in 1988 to begin work with the Jefferson County Assessor’s Office in Golden, Colorado. Over the next 14 years he worked his way up from commercial property appraiser to Chief Deputy Assessor. He was respected for his leadership abilities and sense of humor.
Tom was a lover of the outdoors and enjoyed rock climbing, scuba diving, hiking, camping, skiing, river rafting, biking, swimming and photography. Tom was fascinated by nature and studied geology, astronomy and oceanography. He enjoyed traveling and toured several European countries. As a young man he learned to play guitar, a hobby he enjoyed throughout his life. He was young at heart, meticulous and fair, funny and thoughtful, and a clever practical jokester with a quick wit. He was a gentleman and will be missed by friends and family alike.
Tom is survived by his wife Becky; his son Gabriel and his wolf dog Zoe; his daughter April and her husband Zack; his two grandchildren Keiran and Aveolela; his brother Terrell, wife DeeDee and their family; his sister Darla; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel, and his mother, Darlene.
Memorials will be established in his honor with New Mexico Xtreme Sports a non-profit youth serving organization, and the Growhaus of Denver, a non-profit urban farm specializing in food security programs for inner-city populations.
