Obituary for Vito "Nick" Leopold Nicoletti
Nick, age 98, was a resident of Wind Crest Community in Highlands Ranch, Colorado. He was born in Providence, Rhode Island, to Peter Nicoletti and Philomena DeLillis Nicoletti.
Nick spent much of his boyhood in Clinton, Massachusetts. As a teenager, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the White Mountains of New Hampshire during the Great Depression of the 1930s. In 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Submarine Service and served in the Pacific Theater for three years during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
After the war, Nick moved to Long Island, New York, and with wife Lillian started his own electrical business in addition to working as an Engineering Tech for the Federal Government. When his government facility (the U.S. Naval Training Devices Center) transferred the entire operation, the family moved in 1965 to Orlando, Florida, where Nick eventually retired from government service in 1977. He continued to operate his small electrical business for many years after retirement and could always be counted on for prompt, quality service with a smile. In 1978, Nick and Lillian moved to Marietta, Georgia, and then to Littleton in 1991 and Highlands Ranch, Colorado, in 2008.
Nick always loved water activities, especially boating and fishing, along with golf and bowling. His gardening expertise was legendary, and the family used to joke that Nick could stick a 2 x 4 piece of wood in the ground and it would grow. He enjoyed sharing the bounty of his vegetable garden each year, and his gentle demeanor, generosity, and kind spirit were appreciated by family and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years Mildred "Lillian" Nicoletti; son Scott (Cathy) Nicoletti of Hernando Beach, Florida; daughter Christine (Tom) Brown of Castle Pines, Colorado; daughter Janice "Jackie" (Steve) Stoller of Wake Forest, North Carolina; four grandchildren including David A. Brown of Durham, North Carolina, Leslie Brown Shair of New York, New York, Dana Nicoletti Justus of Alexandria, Virginia, and Bryan Nicoletti of Tampa, Florida; four additional grandchildren and five great-grandchildren to continue his legacy.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Staff Appreciation Fund at Wind Crest Retirement Community or the veterans’ organization of your choice in Nick's memory.
